Defense Business Institute (NDBI) was established August 1, 2008 to inspire national security business innovation for both government and the defense industry by providing resources and practical, sound assistance in creating economically efficient and effective defense business and acquisition programs.

The specific goals of NDBI are three fold:

1)  Provide The Department of Defense innovative acquisition business management resources consisting of processes, research capability and process improvement tools that will result in more efficient, effective defense acquisition programs. NDBI core competence will be in the following Department of Defense and Government Program areas:

  • Acquisition System and Processes
  • Integrated Life Cycle Management
  • Sustainment Programs (Performance Driven Outcomes)
  • Continuous Process Improvement
  • Leadership (Business and Acquisition Management)
  • Energy and Environment

2)  Provide a world-class venue for forums, learning seminars and meetings for developing, understanding and sharing the most innovative thinking in life cycle management and leadership of national security systems and services business acquisition programs. NDBI concentration will be on the following outreach activities:

  • Aerospace Clearing House – NDBI Advisors to the University of Tennessee
  • Acquisition Business Research Studies and Publications
  • Acquisition and Program Management Automated Tools and Models Development
  • Facilitating Meetings and Conferences
  • Develop and provide “Acquisition Program Success Simulation” acquisition process simulation tool for the government and industry

3)  Provide a coordinated outreach necessary that draws the finest minds to develop and refine process improvement resources for the private sector defense industry to compete for Defense business and sustain world-class performance in executing Defense contracts. NDBI core competence will be in the following private sector business areas:

  • Corporate Level Business Capture Strategy Development
  • Defense Program Operations Management
